Anime Syracuse has come and gone again, so time to recap it! 8D

Friday NoctemNS came out to see me and we went to the mall, then headed back to my place to watch RWBY (I got him into a show, yay!) and just chill. Pretty typical stuff, really.

Saturday

I dressed as Rei Ayanami and Nick dressed as Shinji Ikari and we hit the con! This year Nick brought Pen-pen with him, as well as a file folder that he put the NERV logo onto, so he was much more easily recognized. c: We started the day in the Voice Actor Q&A panel with Alexis Tipton, Bryan Massey, and Cherami Leigh. Had a lot of laughs there, of course, then headed to the dealer's room for some browsing. We grabbed lunch at around noon, and got in line for the Voice Actor Autographs. Unfortunately, I guess the timing was off or something, so we ended up skipping it to instead attend the Cosplay Dating Game. Faaaar too many laughs were had there, mostly at the expense of the hosts. xD

Hung out for another hour or so, then attended the Cosplay Contest--I took pictures but the majority of them turned out blurry unfortunately. Sucks because there were a lot of really awesome costumes this year!

We headed upstairs to a panel with Cherami and Alexis talking about... I'm honestly not quite sure what, exactly lol. Positivity and not letting life get you down and learning that Cherami Leigh is a crazy person in all the best ways might be the best way to sum it up.

After the panel was some more wandering, before we went to Bedtime Stories again! Oh man, JUST AS FUN AS LAST YEAR. 8D This year they ended up calling Todd Haberkorn and leaving him a really random voicemail. Also, sassy unicorns. It was A++.

Went home and Nick finally sat me down and made me watch Doctor Who, which I'm now hopelessly into--I've watched about a season and a half since Saturday night. We crawled into bed around midnight, got up and headed for the con again!

Sunday

Dressed as Riku from KH2 which went over well, and Nick was Captain Jack Harkness which ALSO went over well. Our first stop was the Ask Sherlock panel, which was pretty funny even if I've never seen Sherlock and didn't really get all the context of what was happening.

We went upstairs to the game room after the panel, and Nick picked up Katamari for the first time ever, got himself into a tournament, then decided it was probably best to break for lunch because we weren't sure what time would be better for that (had a busy evening, even though we weren't hungry just then). We grabbed lunch, then split off for a couple of hours. I hung out outside (and possibly got myself into an AHWU video, we'll see on Monday), Nick went to watch something in the screening room.

By chance, met up again in the game room, where Nick was in the middle of a Katamari run that landed him third place on the leaderboard! 8D We headed to the Voice Actor Q&A for Sunday, had some laughs, left some voicemails, etc. Nick wanted to try to land first place in the Katamari tournament because money, so we went back up there with just about 30 minutes left in the tournament.

Then things got interesting.

The guy who had been in third place was playing to try to reclaim his spot, and about halfway through his match... the controller batteries died! The guy running the show came over and plugged in the controller, so the player restarted the round. Managed to have an excellent run and get himself into second place.

A friend of his who had never played before went next, doing actually very well for a very first attempt with the game, haha. Each round was eight minutes long, and so she finished with a little less than 10 minutes left in the tournament. Nick went next.

I was watching the clock, the scoreboard on the wall, and Nick's score as he passed the third place score... which was only a little bit behind the second place score. First place was about 10cm ahead of second, and with maybe 30 seconds left, Nick got himself into first place.

Needless to say, there was much cheering. 8D

So he won $20 and we hit the dealer's room and Nick got himself some very nice Evangelion figures--Asuka and Rei. c: Then we got in line for the Cosplay Dating Game 18+, which was a bucket of laughs. After that the con was over, so we headed back to my place, had some dinner, and then Nick took off for home again.

Overall a very good weekend! 8D

Well now that I feel like a human being again (amazing what sleep, food, more sleep, and a shower will do for you) it's time to recap the amazingness that was MetroCon 2013!

Friday
Up balls early at like 4AM to get to the airport. Quick flight to LGA, longer flight to TPA and I was there and ready for fun! Called up ten-wa-tokku-desu and we met at the Starbucks because heated bean water yessss. Sat around drinking coffees and catching up a little, then snagged a cab to our snazzy hotel room.

I was wearing my Grifball shirt, and the guy that checked me in knew what it was. 8D So we headed up to the hotel room, exchanged presents (I got her a Rainbow Dash tumbler glass, she got me a Gundam 00 coffee mug and half of a paopu fruit charm~). Sora got dolled up in her Anastasia costume while I went as I was for day one.

Booked booty across the street to the convention, registered, got my Masquerade ticket, then hit the floor. Stop one was the dealer's room, where we gawked at things and stuff. Pretty soon realized we were starving and also that Lockea and her crew had gotten into town, so we went to Publix for lunch and then back to our hotel to let them into the other room we'd booked. From there we headed back to the con and mostly just wandered, taking pictures of Sora in her awesome costume with the awesome backgrounding that the fancy-ass convention center offered. I met up with Weary!!!! We hugged it out but she was in line to register so we ended up splitting up.

Sora had to go back to the hotel for something, and I had purchased some really awesome prints from Hihoshi because shut up and take my money, so she took those back to the room for me while I did some more wandering. Friday's kinda a blur, sorry. But the prints I got were awesome! Last runs on her console set, a humanized xbox360, wii, and PS2 as well as a Minecraft poster. c: Must find room for them on my walls!

After a bit it was my turn to go back to the hotel, so that I could change into my Masquerade dress, and I dropped off a bunch of stuff there while I was at it. Went back to the con and hit up the Parle ask the cast panel... My question look like twenty minutes to answer because SirFlamboyantWreck had to show video for like everyone's answer xDD (that's what happens when I ask what everyone's favorite production was, I guess...). After the panel I got to say hi to chimocho like I told her I would... and hopefully I didn't freak her out too much? Ahaha. So I left her alone after a could minutes of chatting and ran into.... RWBY COSPLAYERS!!! Yang and Weiss were there, and we talked about RWBY a bit (mostly giggling at the fact that Weiss was so looking forward to her costume right up until watching Thursday's episode and realizing that everyone was going to call her a bitch). Oh yeah, haha, and at one point I looked over my shoulder and sora1992 was there, so I made a joke about swooning in sight of a famous person.

Alright, alright, moving on. I headed out of there and met up with everyone at the Masquerade, had a ton of fun dancing. The storyline this year was really, really dark, which is saying something since two years ago it took place in hell and wasn't this horrifying. Then again, you can't expect rainbows and sunshine when Ladd Russo is your main villain...

After that it was back to the hotel room, showers, and bed. And then it was time for Saturday!!

Saturday
Woke up early and Sora had disappeared on me! After about 5 seconds of worrying, I decided that she was kind of maybe a grown-up and would take care of herself, so I got ready (I'm such a caring friend...). At 8 I texted her to see where she was and her phone rang in the room so that option was pointless. A bit after that she came back though, so all was well. She'd woken up early and gone for a walk.

Sora and I were dressed as Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine from Resident Evil, and we looked BADASS!! Though unfortunately, we were unarmed. Hopefully we could intimidate the zombies out of attacking?

So we went next door and took coffee orders from everyone and then ran across the street to Starbucks for coffees. Everyone was almost ready by the time we got back, so we finished up and then headed into the con. The first thing on our agenda was the Human Chess match, which started at noon, so we spent about half an hour exploring the artist's alley... and spending more money. Thank god for my huge paycheck from last week! I got a little zipper bag thingy with Black Mage and White Mage on it that said "I'd Like To Final Your Fantasy" and Lockea got the same one because yessss. Those came from the folks at GeekSpirations and you can see the bag I got here. After that Jenn took a trip back to the hotel room and brought purchases back for us, while Sora and I got in line for the chess match.

The match was pretty good this year, though I didn't feel quite as invested in it as in the past because I didn't recognize as many of the characters... Thogh Finn from Adventure time and the guy from Avatar were both pretty funny! It was a pretty good show, over all, definitely enjoyable.

We got lunch after the match, went back to the hotel room to eat and then Sora and I tried to do a photoshoot but Tampa is just waaaaay too sunny and cheerful for Resident Evil so almost none of those pics will be posted until Sora has time to go through and 'shop them. We did than and then we went back into the con for a bit of walking... I lost track of my group, but met up with Weary again and helped her work on her Saix wig. c: After much wig working her and I headed into the con, looked around artist's alley, then ran into some people who happened to be hosting the panels we were going to! She was heading to the KH one and I was going to the Resident Evil one next door, so yay~!

The RE panel was pretty fun, lots of making fun of Leon's driving abilities and such. Didn't get a chance to ask Chris if he had an account on RT, though, bah.

After panels and stuff Weary and I went back to the hotel, grabbed Sora, and got changed for the rave. Sora and I got our Raver Sora and Raver Riku costumes out again, and my old Riku wig got its last hurrah because seriously that thing is dead as dicks. But we had a fun time jumping around at the rave and dancing together and stuff! 8D

Finally went back to the hotel room and stayed up stupidly late talking about dragon dildos and having sex with statues because that is the kind of things we do, like real grown-ups and stuff.

Sunday
Saturday night, Sora had gone to get her friend forgot10rose, who was our Roxas. So Sunday morning we pimped it up in KH outfits with Sora, Roxas, Kairi, and me as Riku, reunited at long last!

We hit the dealer's room and I spent even more money on awesome t-shirts (including an Aperture Laboratories shirt, whee~!) before heading to Parle's Meet the Survivors panel, which was a TON of fun! I can't even begin to start explaining it but dear god I laughed harder than I have in quite a while.

After that was lunch again, but we hurried back from Publix because it looked like it was gonna storm... met up with Weary and hung out with her again for a while, then said sad goodbyes to most everyone. Sora and Roxas dropped me off at the airport, some misadventures happened, and then...

My flight got delayed due to weather and I missed my flight home and I had to spend the night in LGA. @_@ But after multiple times of sleeping sitting up in a corner I got on my standby flight and made it home.

So now I'm finally home and MetroCon is over and that's a sadface if I ever saw one. I can't wait until next year!

Big Thanks!
ten-wa-tokku-desu and Lockea for being the best buddies ever! I love you guys, even if Lockea elbows me in the throat when I try to be nice.
Lockea's crew it was nice to meet you all and I'm hoping we can dork it up again sometime!
forgot10rose so great to see you again! Don't be a stranger, okay?
Weary you're made of awesome and I had so much fun with you! 8D I hope we get to get together for a con again in the future!
chimocho thanks for not being weirded out by me! You're a real sweetie... Sorry I didn't know where to get pizza lol.
Everyone at Parle Productions... you guys are the reason I started going to MetroCon five years ago (holy crap!!!) and I'll continue to rearrange my life to go down there and see you again. You lot are awesome, and I hope you keep it up for a good long while!

(Costume Update at the bottom!)
dHey everyone! <3

So I've booked my flight and a hotel for MetroCon 2013. 8D I'll be flying in Friday and out Sunday, just like last year, but this year I'll be using the Tampa airport rather than Orlando.

I've also gone ahead and booked a room at the Mariott right near the convention center, because I definitely prefer being walking distance to the convention (and I should already know that about myself lol).

I know that ten-wa-tokku-desu is going (because I'll beat her to death if she doesn't), so who else is planning to come? TGFECG reunion, anyone?

If you're coming to MetroCon don't forget to come say hi to me! I'll update what stuff I'll be wearing on what days and what panels I plan to attend once I figure it out, so watch this space!

Hope to see everyone soon <3 <3 <3

Costume Update!

Friday you'll either see me walking about in my Grifball t-shirt (Ph0enixFlame on the back) or else my Destiny Island Surf Club Riku shirt.
Friday night I'll be going to the Masquerade (if tickets are still available @_@)--no costume, but I'll have a silver wig and a blue dress and be with Treize.
Saturday I'll be Jill Valentine from RE3 with Claire Redfield from RE2.
Saturday night I'll be Raver Riku with Raver Sora.
Sunday I'll be Riku from KH2 with Sora and probably Kairi and Roxas if I'm remembering right.

I hope to see everyone there!

Alright, time to finally get down to the UBCon 2013 recap.

On Friday I headed out to meet up with NoctemNS at around 1 and got there at 4. We hung out for about an hour before heading to UB for the con. Registration took a bit longer this time than last year for both of us, but the line wasn't terrible and they're really good at being efficient with both pre-reg and at-the-door there, which is awesome.

I wasn't in costume, but Nick was dressed as Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and Torchwood. His costume looked really awesome, so bug him to post pictures of it!

We headed from registration to a game of Arkham Horror, a board game involving the Cthulhu Mythos. I ended up not playing because I didn't want to drag the party down with my complete lack of knowledge, but I watched and it was a lot of fun to see. And of course our intrepid investigators prevailed in the end. 8D

From there we hit up a prop making panel and I got all sorts of neat ideas for how to improve my weapons and such with the magic of FOAM. Nick also has to e-mail me with the link list once he gets it, but eh, that can wait.

This year there were some new restrictions on the NERF war, including limiting the number of participants at any given time to around 200, and requiring that if you wanted to play, you had to get a ticket at 10 and then go to the rules/info session at 11. Because of panels we missed our window to get tickets, so unfortunately we missed out on the NERF war this year. Ah well, there's always next year!

We were getting kind of hungry, so we popped off campus and grabbed some really late dinner, then headed back to eat and watch a little bit of Evangelion. Ended up calling it an early night at around 2.

Saturday we got up and got costumed, with Nick as Captain Jack again and myself as Black Mage. We met up with Rachel, who was dressed as Jade Curtiss from Tales of the Abyss, and then the two of them took off to a panel while I went wandering (and got Starbucks!). I checked out Artist's Alley and the dealer's room, then decided that I wanted to get a present for ten-wa-tokku-desu since the next time I see her will be around her birthday. After chatting with one particular artist, I made a call to Sara and we started playing phone tag.

Headed to an improv panel and nearly died laughing from some of it. I skipped out of that one about a half hour before it ended because I wanted to find an outlet and charge my phone a bit, so I headed over near where the Final Fantasy panel was going to be.

Hung out in the hall a bit, freaking some people out (apparently when Black Mage sits really still, it's hard to tell if there's actually someone in there, haha!). A few minutes before the panel started I ducked into the panel room and was almost immediately informed that the guy running it had seen me in the hallway and was planning to DRAG me in there if I didn't show up.

We spent a lot of time talking about which Final Fantasy game was the best in everyone's opinion (majority vote went to 7 and 10, but I'll wave my 4 flag proudly!), then discussed different characters and what we liked or disliked about them. Ended off with a discussion of what we'd want to see in future games, stuff like combat systems, character classes, etc.

After that I called Sara back and found out what present she wanted (which she better have forgotten already!), bought it, then headed to the Johnny Yong Bosch Q&A session, where I met up with Rachel again!

Immediately after Q&A was the Cosplay Dating Game, which Nick re-joined us for. We enjoyed that quite a bit, but I snuck out early because my phone desperately needed charging. Met up with Nick and Rachel again and we hung out waiting for the 18+ Cosplay Dating game, which was a couple of hours earlier than what was on the schedule because the runners didn't want it to overlap with the Kelly Turnbull After Dark panel. Or something, I guess there were two 18+ Dating Games... IDK, I was really tired by the time someone was explaining it.

So Captain Jack got up as both a Bachelor and a Contestant and it was more than hilarious. He ended up hooking up with Lady Loki when he was a Bachelor, and got declined as a contestant. His questions and answers certainly cracked me up, though.

We headed to Kelly Turnbull After Dark then, sat around hanging out with her and learned some interesting things about both her life and the duties of the UBCon staff. I was getting fidgety by then, so we left a little bit early and hung out in the hallways.

Most of the rest of the night was just hanging out talking. Nick saw a couple of other friends, we told funny stories from Daytona (like the time Nick almost gave me a concussion), and finally at like 5AM we called it a night, dropped Rachel off at her car, and headed back to Nick's place.

Got in and went to bed at 6AM with alarm clock set to 8:30, but as expected, that didn't happen. My alarm went off, I rolled over and turned it off, then rolled right back over and went to sleep until about 10. We hurried and got ready to get to the con (Nick as Captain Jack again, me in plain clothes), met p with Rachel again, and browsed the artist's alley some more, where I bought some Firefly buttons.

Probably one of the funnest things we did was play Artemis, which is a Star Trek-based game where five-ish people play different roles on the bridge of a ship. I was the Communications Officer, and it was super fun. 8D We might have flown into a mine field by mistake, but it's okay because the AI did it too!

A lot of the time was just hanging out on Sunday... we headed to a panel at 2, but ended up leaving that for a couple of reasons (personally I was worried I was gonna fall asleep, because the lights were really low in there xDD). At about 3 we said goodbye to Rachel, packed up and headed back to Nick's place. Nick had to be to work, and I wanted to get home and get some sleep.

Ride home was uneventful, I made it safe, etc, etc. Still recovering my sleep right now, though.

Next event is MetroCon, where I'll get to see all my Florida buddies again! 8D I gotta buy my plane tickets soon.

For next year's UBCon I'm gonna try to put together a Kaylee cosplay, from Firefly, because that'd be fun. We might try to assemble a group, even... see what happens. 8D

Special thanks to Nick for letting me stay with him for the weekend, driving to and from the con, and generally being awesome!

UBCon 2013

6 min read
Just to make it clear, I do plan to attend, though unfortunately not with ten-wa-tokku-desu because she's in ItaJapIsreWash-place. But I'll get to see NoctemNS and the rest of the gang from Buffalo, so that's good! I also gotta make sure that Nick's still got a spare bed/floor I can crash on for the weekend.

Life has been crazy-hectic-busy lately because I've had to work six days a week and that leaves me with no time or motivation to work on costume... so while I have most of the base gear for Jill, I haven't even started putting it together. Arg. Grr.

I'll see what I can get done in the three weeks before the con, but worst case scenario I'll probably just bring one or two costumes and then street clothes. Maybe bring back Black Mage, as everyone got a kick out of it last year and I think the hat is finally not a disaster zone (I think?).

BUT THEN THERE'S METROCONNNN and I hope to see as many people as possible there. Sara and I still have to work out our plans (which requires us to be on skype at the same time which is damn near impossible because I don't know where in the world she even is anymore), but I did buy my tickets for the weekend and as soon as my tax return is in my bank account I'm gonna buy my ticket.

I'm thinking of taking about a week off work for Metro, and driving up to New York with my grandma since she wants to come up around that time of year for birthdays and stuff, but doesn't want to drive up alone. If that's the case I'll probably be at the hotel in Tampa Friday-Monday, then pack up and head up north to my grandma's Monday morning. Also, guys, I think we should try for a hotel that's walking distance from the con this year, if we can. Instead of doing shuttles and/or making someone drive us back and forth to the center. We'll have to bang out details over e-mail or I'll have to break down and get back on facebook.
